Date: 1973

This is the unique original Pencil drawing by Hal Foster.

This is the original preliminary drawing by Hal Foster created for Prince Valiant Sunday page #1880 published on 18th Feb 1973. This piece is accompanied by the type written script and also a typed page of atmosphere details, both also by Foster, shown in the additional photos.

This highly detailed drawing was drawn by Foster to guide John Cullen Murphy who would be inking the finished page.

The drawing shows a series of very interesting layout grids, blue line non-repro pencil and a publishers' note, possibly the letter 'b' in blue ink. There is also a dark brush mark in the margin to the left of the drawing. This gives an intimate insight into the working practices of the artist.

Hal Foster, who's work on Prince Valiant is legendary, hand picked John Cullen Murphy to be his successor on the strip.

A certificate of authentication will be provided with the artwork.
