Let's Go to Chesterfield: City of the Seven Plotters. This is the original artwork from Look and Learn no. 1049 (17 April 1982). George Stephenson is buried in the town. The spire of Our Lady & All Saints has a strangely twisted Gothic spire. Sailors from HMS Danae are the only ones permitted to march through the town with fixed bayonets; this is because the town adopted the ship.
The revolutionary plot of 1688, which saw the downfall of King James II was hatched at the Cock and Pynot Inn. This explains the presence of a cock and a pynot or magpie on the towns coat of arms. Bottom right is Haddon Hall one of several fine country estates in the area that are now open to the public.
