This is the unique original Pen & Ink Wash by Cecil Doughty.

The Regency in Great Britain was a period when King George III was deemed unfit to rule and his son ruled as his proxy as Prince Regent. The future George IV became one of the greatest patrons of the arts and architecture Britain had ever seen, and a mini cultural renaissance bloomed during his reign.

In this scene set in Brighton pavilion, Cecil Doughty portrays some of the opulence of his reign. Whilst the upper classes enjoyed such surroundings, the lower classes were often housed in slum areas nicknamed 'Rookeries', which enjoyed little glamour and next to no sanitation.

This was published in Finding Out magazine for an article pictorializing the history of England.
