This is the Signed unique original Watercolour painting by Ralph Bruce.

William Caxton was a successful merchant before turning to printing. It was on a trip to Cologne that he spotted a press using moveable soft metal type.

He was already an amateur translator of the classics and so put the two ideas together realising how quickly and cheaply translated books might be printed in England.

From Look and Learn 364 (4 January 1969).
