144 Diego Cordoba Growing up in Colombia, Diego was exposed to US comics from an early age and he soon succumbed to their irresistible charms. Chief amongst those irresistible charmers was the Warren line of comics such as Vampirella , Creepy and Eerie . His big ambition was to head to New York and work for Warren but, finding out that work from that particular source had pretty much dried up, Diego decided to seek out the well-head of the 'Spanish Art' that had so enriched his youth and flew out to Barcelona to meet Josep Toutain. When Diego arrived in Barcelona he headed towards his lodgings located, as it turned out, in one of the most run-down parts of the city, with whores, spivs and gangsters as his neighbours. Stopping off for a night- time aperitif in what must have been one of Barcelona's seediest bars, he was surprised to see the walls adorned with drawings of beautiful women looking uncannily as if they had been rendered by Pepe Gonzalez. Meeting Josep Toutain, the following day, Diego made mention of this strange encounter, to which Toutain said nothing, although his jaw did perceptibly tighten. It was an indication that Pepe's extra-curricular work was an ongoing source of ire to his most devoted mentor. Diego's association with Toutain was a long and fruitful one, during which he not only came to admire and learn from the great man, but he also came to know about the artists whose work had long enthralled him. Now he was getting to know them as individuals, each with their own stories and concerns. Since first making the journey to Spain, Diego has produced comics, cartoons and illustrations for publishers through Spain, France and Switzerland, where he currently resides. He is currently dedicating much of his time to sharing his passion for great art and illustration with the readers of illustrators, where he works as our deputy editor, interviewing and writing about artists as well as creating superb layouts and battering us with a never-ending flow of brilliant ideas for future features—we are having to run to keep up with him! David Roach Like Diego, David's work covers a multiplicity of disciplines. Familiar to 2000AD fans for his breathtaking depictions of Judge Anderson , his work has also included strips for Dr Who magazine and work for DC comics as well as some super-seductive depictions of Vampirella for Dynamite . His knowledge of comics, illustration and art in general have seen him appear on TV, newsprint and, with a healthy back catalogue in books on comics and illustration, including collaborations with Rian Hughes and most recently his books on Warren and Vampirella , he is a most welcome contributor to this project.
