92 The Gallery: Fortunino Matania—the Art of Reportage Illustration The art of Fortunino Matania provided readers with an insight into news events that would otherwise have been impossible to document visually in an era when photography was still in its infancy. His illustrations brought to life events which would have otherwise been beyond the comprehension of his audience. The sinking of the Titanic, the coronation of King Edward VII and his documentation of the First WorldWar, present the viewer with images of astonishing vitality. His depictions of scenes from many periods of history were popular for much of the last century. A new and sumptuous collection of his art is currently in development; titled 'The Art of Fortunino Matania— Drawing From History'. It is due for publication later this year by Book Palace Books . ● ● For more information about this and other similar projects—visit: www.bookpalace.com .
