74 The Studio: Adam Stower The work of Brighton-based artist Adam Stower is underpinned by exquisite draftsmanship and superb observational skills. His art is narrative driven and full of charm and incident. Peter Richardson had the pleasure of interviewing Adam and discovering a lot more about his art and what makes him tick. PR: Did you always draw? AS: Yes. I have enjoyed drawing for as long as I can remember. The first illustration of mine to appear in print was a cartoon of a high jumper. It was published in my school magazine. I was only nine, but I remember very clearly the excitement I felt seeing the published drawing. Perhaps that was the moment I was bitten by the illustration bug. PR: Were any other members of your family artistic? AS: Both of my grandfathers were very artistic: My grandad Sam was an architect and a wonderful draughtsman. He was the architect responsible for London Bridge. My grandad Bill was an accomplished amateur painter and photographer.
