In the ‘70s he discovered Burne Hogarth’s ‘Dynamic Figure Drawing’, a book that gave aspiring artists a lesson on drawing in Hogarth’s own arcane and rather exaggerated style. Along with Hogarth (one of the Tarzan artists for the colour Sunday newspaper strips) Mitch also discovered comic book artists such as Bernie Wrightson (who back then drew Swamp Thing ) and Barry Smith (who drew Conan ). These three artists would be his main source of inspiration and got him drawing pictures of sword-wielding barbarians in impossible OTT poses.
