Mitch O' Connell is, without doubt, one of the most energetic and engaging illustrators out there. His shameless self-promotion and zany humour are an extension of his art—or perhaps it is the other way around. Decide for yourself as you read Diego Cordoba's no-holds-barred exposé of this self-made legend of kitsch art who has made good. In contrast to the pop zeigeist of Mitch O'Connell, the work of Sep Scott conjures up images of baronial halls and stately homes as backdrops to the cut, parry and thrust of daring swordplay and swashbuckling gymnastics. The fact that he opened up a new phase of his career and created some of his best work when he was entering his 70s adds extra resonance to his story, as David Ashford reveals. One of the busiest illustrators out there is Jeff Miracola. Aside from being exceptionally talented, he is also a great communicator as followers of his online presence on Facebook and YouTube have discovered. Not only is his work inspirational but his story is as well, as you will discover when Peter Richardson casts his spotlight on this remarkable artist. Brooke Boynton Hughes is another artist who has a great online presence. Her exquisite and captivating illustrations are a firm favourite in the highly competitive world of children's publishing. In this engaging interview, she shares the story of how she realised her goal and shares some of her trade secrets into the bargain. Tor Upson has got her career off to a promising start: having only graduated last year, she certainly hasn't let the grass grow under her feet. As well as working as Damien Hirst's painting assistant, she won the Student Award at the Cheltenham Illustration Awards, created work for the Prince's Trust and generated designs for a West End production of Dr Syn.
