A lovely light and airy watercolour by John Worsley showing Wee Willie Winkie's arrival at Hathi Pole, the gate to the City Palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Employing light sandy tones to contrast with pale purple shadows, Worsley creates a dreamy vision of this Palace gate, flanked by wonderfully painted local figures.
Please note that this piece comes with two free panels also from Wee Willie Winkie's adventures in India.
Worsley, who spent time in a P.O.W. camp after being captured in Yugoslavia during World War II, achieves a fantastic liberation from the past by painting in such a fluid joyful manner.
Worsley's work can be found in The Imperial War Museum, The Maritime Museum, The collection of HM The Queen, The Savage club and many other private collections including those of Royal Families, banks and Colleges.Click for larger image ...
