The Illustration Collector Auction Catalogue published by Illustration House Issue #41 focussed on the artwork of Robert Searle. Following an education at The Cambridge School of Art, he worked firstly for a solicitor's office and subsequently a local paper before being conscripted at the start of WWII.

As a Royal Engineer, Searle worked in the camouflage section before being sent to Singapore in 1941. Captured by the Japanese, Searle was a prisoner of war for 40 months, his wit and ability to humourize situations the only thing keeping him alive.

This rare 36 page booklet contains splendid images of 42 works which were to be auctioned in the winter of 2000-2001.
