This is the unique original Gouache painting by F R Exell.

One dark and fateful night Duncan Campbell allowed a bloodstained stranger to seek sanctuary in his castle. It was a decision that was to cast a strange and terrible curse upon his head.

The story of Campbell's premonition is the basis for a famous ballad by Robert Louis Stevenson called Ticonderoga: A Legend of the West Highlands, published in 1887.
