This is the original Gouache painting by Severino Baraldi.

Seventeenth Century William Dampier was a failure as a pirate - but his travel diary turned out to be a best-seller. He tried to settle down (see inset) with the profits he made from his diary. But the lure of the sea was too strong, and he set off again on yet another voyage.

Joining a band of ruffians to capture a Mexican town, Dampier found that all the inhabitants had fled taking all their valuables away with them. A lively piece from Severino Baraldi that captures the classic pulp illustration style that is so well suited to Piracy adventures.

This is the original artwork from Look and Learn #860 July 8th 1978.
